Spiniak Issues.

I always wonder what our political parties, politicians, governmental institutions, educational system and Church are doing to protect our nation greatest natural resource – our children. Don’t you think we have to roll our sleeves up and get the job done as educational community, social community, city, region, government?

Chilean children are being sexually abused, minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day, at the hands of predator and sexual abusers and it seems, I remark “it seems” that our laws do not punish abuser properly, and “it seems” that laws allow these individuals to repeatedly seek out new victims and “it also seems “ that some lawyers and judges do not have the courage or the personal fortitude to tackle these situations head-on.

My purpose, to expose all these situations, is to encourage each and every person who reads this to insist on , whether there is a law or people that actually protect these life destroyers , be changed and socially punished respectively, since NOBODY must have the right or the freedom to abuse on children damaging their life and blackenning their soul.

To determine who are reponsible; what individuals, policemen and authorities are involved? , who is profitting political revenues from the well known issue called “Caso Claudio Spiniak” which has transformed our country into a mess?. This scandal agitated Chile during two years, since a) a conservative congresswoman ( Pía Guzman) declared that some of her own political allies were involved; b) Pablo Longueira, main leader of the political right wing, denounced that Guzman’s declarations were a “political montage” against his political party; c) Mr. Jocelyn-Holt, a historian attacked news media stating that media’s focus reflects “a combination of anti-semitism and homophobia, regarding that Spiniak was Jewish and bisexual; d) a gay bathhouse identified Daniel Calvo, an investigative judge originally appointed to the case, as one of his clients, and the Supreme Court ruled to dismiss him from the Spiniak case for “improper behaviour” ; e) a 20-year-old woman (Gemita Bueno) was sued by a senator who felt her description of her abusers impugne his honor despite his name was not mentioned anywhere; f) television network faced criminal charges of violating a law forbidding the taping of interviews without permission of politicians involved; g) congressmen are accused by press, radio and television representatives of approving a bill that severely restrict the capacity of reporting sexual conduct of any public figure, including politicians, considering this an attempt to inhibit freedom of the press.
I could go on telling and describing fatal and horrible facts, but Who is taking care abused children’s mental health?; Why were all these people overlapping their selfish and obscure political interests instead of being worried upon how many other boys and girls haven’t been included in this ghostly list and that they still are close to the wolf’s mouth?; Why mass media continues focusing its attention to accessories events being aware of its ethical duty of being aside the weakest who can’t be listened to?; Why was everybody concentrated on military men, politicians, policemen, priests’ pains? And Children’s?. Nobody was, unfortunately. Mass media has never been interested on this kind of suffering.

VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE IN IQUIQUE- CHILE

June, Monday, 13th, 2005:

Last Monday13th while all our students were in class our city was shaken by a hoarse and violet earthquake. The terror people got was increased by the news of a possible “tsunami”, fear based on the cataclysm suffered by people in Asia some months ago.
I am a Teacher of English at Universidad del Mar in Iquique- Chile, that evening I was leaving my office to go back home. I met many people, I said good bye to many of them and, in the way to the entrance door, we organized our uncertain duties for next morning. It was in that precise moment everybody heard a strange thrilling motion which covered halls and offices as a whole; the shocks were so violent and varied that one had to balance in walking. It was in that moment I took shelter close to a door opened just a few seconds ago. As far as I remember and within this unwilling state of inconciousness I saw glass, pieces of windows, stones of plenty sizes falling down on some students’ heads which was followed by a complete dust saturation of the atmosphere causing total darkness. The stairs were like walking across a waterbed with waves coming from behind and to my right and left, therefore, I thought if the epicenter was along the coast, this would be a 5.0 magnitude earthquake at least!, at least!.
I managed to get through to my family but it was impossible, since we had a dial tone on the phone at Reception Desk 2 hours later the earth phenomena.
At 9:00 p.m. approximately, I could know my family, my wife and my older daughter were safe at home, not without living desperate hours completely constrained by the fear that a new earth shock could destroy our living nest..
When I got back home, about 10:00 p.m., the phone was completely out at that point, and still no sign of my younger daughter (21). She was supposed to be at the University. She studies Agronomy. To cut a long story short, a glimmer of hope when she called us up communicating she was at her best friend’s house commenting and resting. I knew God was taking care of her. There was a lot of glass in the living-room and pieces of plaster and dust everywhere. No water and no electricity.
Twelve dead people, one thousand wounded people and millions of dollars in material losses. We will never know whether all Nature’s wildness will tell the same story, including this mysterious and lawless “convulsion of nature”.
